How 21st Century Has Helped You Succeed
“College never felt like an achievable goal growing up, but after receiving the IU 21st Century Scholarship that all have changed. With the support of the IU Office of Scholarship, as well as the IU 21st Century Scholars Office, I feel like there is nothing holding me back in the pursuit of my academic and career goals. As a first generation student, I probably would not have considered Indiana University Bloomington without the 21st Century Scholarship and the 21st Century Convent Scholarship. I will be forever grateful for this program in making my college education an achievable goal. I hope that by reading this Spotlight to the Month, you will start to appreciate the IU 21st Century Scholars Program for all that it is: a scholarship, an academic advisor, a mentor, and most importantly a support system. ”
Why IU
“When I was in high school, I was dead set on attending Purdue University and then, out of rebellion for my Purdue University supporting family, I decided to visit Indiana University Bloomington. I honestly can say that it was love at first sight. Not only was the campus beautiful, but the IU School of Global and International Studies (SGIS) just opened its doors in 2015 and they were hiring renowned faculty members and staff to train the next generation of global leaders in society. For me, it was really a no brainer after meeting with the amazing professors and staff at IU SGIS.”
Future Goals
“In the future, I plan to work in some way, shape or form with the federal government such as the World Bank or United Nations. I am extremely interested in drug and alcohol abuse across the U.S.-Mexican border and how the trafficked drugs can affect low-income impoverished rural communities. I hope to one day combine my academic interests in law and public policy to pursue public justice in the international arena.”
